In sixth grade John meets Mike Deluca, the first person to equal John in terms of loving conflict, football, and fighting. Penn Webb is small and weedy. There is a blind fear which prevents them from breaking the boundaries which separates them from the people surrounding them. We tend to forget that we are all human beings and we need to treat people fairly regardless of race. Crash and Penn are not destined to get along.
